The ability to prepare meals independently is very important to our clients. It allows them to choose their foods and minimizes expenses significantly in contrast to purchasing food from fast food restaurants.

Clients are trained on the proper and safe use of cooking equipment which includes sage handling of knives and other kitchen utensils, safe operation of the stove, oven, microwave and other cooking and food processing appliances.

Clients are also trained on the proper care and maintenance of this equipment. Safety is essential, so it is imperative clients are knowledgeable in the use of appropriate cleaning products used in the kitchen as well as for their uses. Cleaning of dishes, pots and pans and the use of a dishwasher is also demonstrated for learning.

Depending on the clients’ need, education on nutrition and healthy living can be given. Lessons on the Food Guide Pyramid and support for special diets or restrictions like diabetes, obesity and for medical eating conditions can also be given in accordance with their physician recommendations. Also, lessons on “food variety” can be given at clients requests especially for those with allergic food reactions.
