Independent Living Skills Instructor
Position Summary:
Independent Living Skills Instructors provide “functional skills training for adult consumers who generally have acquired basic self-help skills and who, because of their physical and/or mental disabilities, do not possess basic self-help skills, but who employ and supervise aides to assist them in meeting their personal needs. “Title 17, Section 54302 (a) (26).
Duties:
ILS Instructors provide functional skills training for Regional Center Clients in a variety of areas, including but not limited:

Cooking; cleaning; shopping in the community; menu planning; meal preparation; money management; such as budgeting, check cashing, and purchasing activities; use of public transportation in the community; personal health and hygiene; self-advocacy training; independent recreation and participation in the community; use of medical and dental services, and other community resources; community resource awareness (such as police, fire, or emergency help); home and community safety.

ILS Instructor should be familiar with his/her assigned client’s IPP (Individual Personal Plan) goals and ensure that services provided to the client are directly related to those goals. ILS Instructor is responsible to advise supervisor of IPP to which he/she has been invited, and to bring all appropriate materials to the meeting. ILS Instructor is responsible for updating and informing Supervisor and Service Coordinator of any changes with clients IPP goals and needs.

An ILS Instructor is responsible for preparing and completing all hours assigned with clients. ILS Instructor is also responsible for completing all paperwork on a weekly basis, inputting this information into the Esperanza Services database.

ILS Instructor is responsible for attendance at all staff meetings and other designated trainings. ILS Instructor is responsible for maintaining current CPR and First Aid Certifications in accordance with Region Center policy.
